The 1100 Line called "Epic" was first shown in the 1957 Viking Catalog. There were a large number of pieces introduced in this General Category from day one. Most of the early Epic pieces had a small collared base of different sizes depending on the over all size of the piece. There were also a number of vases that did not have a collar base but were ground smooth. I have just a few pieces in the Gallery at this time but I add regularly. In this article I will try to cover the pieces introduced back in the late 50's and Early 60's.

Below are items that were listed and pictured in the 1957 Viking Catalog. I do not have pictures of the light face items.

#1140 - 11" Bud Vase* ** *** **** *****


The #1140 Bud Vase was made throughout Vikings history. It was in and out of production for over 40 years in 20 different colors. Some colors are tough to locate so you need to look at the individual pieces to find out their rarity. Colors like some of the Crystal Satin Decorated and Spring Blue were made for a very short time.

#1141 - 3.5" Rose Bowl*


This 3.5" Rose Bowl is an old and neat piece that was only in production a few years. I think all colors are in the Gallery. Some of these are very tough to find as production was limited.

#1142 - 6" 4 Sides slightly pulled up Bon Bon



#1143 - 6" 4 Sides slightly pulled up Square Bon Bon* ** ***

These square Bon Bons sold well and remained in production over 5 years.

#1144 - 6.5" Lipped Bon Bon* ** ***

The Lipped Bon Bon was also in production for over 5 years because it sold well and is a neat piece of art glass.

These 2 - part relish trays seem to be fairly common at this time. They were constantly in Viking's production and some like this pictured example have Silver Overlay. The bowls were sent to Silver City Glass Company.

The photo above and the one on the right show the different styles these little Baskets were made in.


Viking used the same number on both styles.

It seems as the number got larger so did the pieces I have seen #1186 over 20 inches.

These large Oblong Plates were in production for the entire Viking Glass Company existence.

Viking introduced Candlesticks in this same pattern in 1957.

#1192 - Tall Taperglow Candlestick* **

The Tall Taperglow Candlestick was made in all the usual colors of the time. Two sizes were made.

These Candlestick styles were copied by other Glass Companies so be sure of the styles and colors when buying these.

Many of these pieces were also listed in the 1958 A.L. Randall Catalog a distributor of Viking Art Glass. Colors available at that time were Ruby, Crystal, Amethyst, Bluenique, Charcoal, Olive Green and Persimmon.

The items without asterisks must have been in production for a very short time and should be considered at least tough to get.

* Means they were pictured in the 1960 - 1961 Viking Catalogs.
** Means they were still in the 1962 - 1963 Viking Catalogs.
*** Means they were still in the 1964 - 1965 Viking Catalogs.

In the 1965 Viking Catalog Supplement there were photos of #1186 in one and 2-Tier Tid Bit Trays.

**** Means they were still in the 1966 - 1967 Viking Catalogs, shown in Ruby.
***** Means they were still in the 1968 - 1969 Viking Catalogs.

The 1970 Viking Catalog showed only the items listed in 1968 - 1969. These 4 items, the #1140 Bud Vase, #1186 large Oblong Bowl, #1160 8.5" 2-Part Relish Tray and the #1196 7" Long Candlestick from the 50’s remained in the Viking line until it closed in 1986.
