by Preston Ver Meer
Facts Released By O.J. Scherschlight - Owner of Mirror Images
After successful selling a series of Ruby Red New Martinsville/Viking Glass Animals in the mid 80’s O.J. was out to try again. This time he convinced the owners of the now Dalzell/Viking to let him bring back a few more old molds with the Ruby color. Samples were needed for promotion work so these were the Molds chosen.
#668 – 7½” Rooster made by Viking only in Crystal in circa 1945.
I do not have a picture of the Rooster
#669 – 5” Hen made by Viking only in Crystal in circa 1945.

#716 – 7” Wolf Hound made by Viking only in Crystal in circa 1945. Pictured Some were finished in the Crystal Satin.
This project never made it too the Mirror Image inventory. Only a few Samples in Ruby survived.
2 - #668 – 7 ½ Inch Ruby Red Roosters

After years of trying to get them made, without success, O.J. sold these samples on the open market. Obviously if you own one of these pieces you are one lucky person.
Still not giving up in his attempt to sell the New Martinsville/Viking Animals he went to Viking again in 1996. This time more samples were made. Molds chosen again from New Martinsville Animals. Animals to be made only in Ruby Red were;
ONLY! 12 Papa Bears Were Made!

Again O.J. was not able to complete his mission to bring these animals to market.
The closing of Viking in 1996 brought everything to a halt and all but ended O.J.’s hopes.
Again the Samples were sold on the open market to collectors.
I have managed to acquire enough items to get these photos for the website. The rest are elusive and waiting to show up. On a rare occasion some of the early Ruby items show up on Ebay. Again if you are lucky enough to get one of these samples put them on your top shelf.
